Green pool recovery and algae treatment
A green pool is almost always fixable in a day or two. It's not a mystery: kill the algae, filter out the debris, balance the chemistry. The key is getting every step right in the right order, with the right equipment. Most DIY attempts stall out at step two.
What's included
- Inspect pool and test water to identify algae type
- Shock the pool with the correct oxidizer and concentration
- Brush every surface to break up algae biofilm
- Run filtration 24/7 and clean filters as they load up
- Add phosphate remover and clarifier as needed
- Balance chemistry and confirm crystal clear
When you need this service
- Pool is cloudy green, dark green, or black
- You got back from vacation and the pool is a swamp
- A tenant or house sitter didn't maintain it
- Equipment failed and chemistry crashed
- Storm or Santa Ana winds dropped heavy debris
Common questions
How fast can you clear a green pool?
Most light to medium green pools are swimmable in 24 to 48 hours. Severe swamps with black algae or heavy organic debris can take 3 to 5 days. We'll tell you what to expect after the first visit.
Can I just dump a bunch of chlorine in myself?
You can, but it usually doesn't finish the job. Shock without proper filtration just suspends dead algae in the water. Without circulation and filter cleaning, it reblooms within a week.
Do I need to drain the pool?
Almost never. Even heavily green pools recover with chemical treatment and filtration. Draining is only needed if chemistry is completely shot (CYA stabilizer too high) or there's physical debris we can't filter out.
